Seascape Bridgend

Early September 2009 saw the third annual Surf Cult Exhibition at Porthcawl Grand Pavilion as part of a Bridgend Arts Development Initiative. In partnership with Academi, this year included the first successful Open Mic night as part of the exhibition’s week of events.

Compeered by local poet Robert Minhinnick, the evening consisted of a series of lively readings including the first on home ground by local author Tom Anderson and a number of the Bridgend and Porthcawl U3A creative writing groups. Throughout the summer, Robert Minhinnick worked with a number of local groups to create poetry based on the sea expressly for the Seascape Open Mic Night.

As part of the Surf Cult Exhibition, over 1000 people were also able to enjoy an expanded Academi relaxing reading corner, which contained a selection of surfing magazines and scrap books detailing the work produced by local groups for the Seascape exhibition as well as a selection of children’s artwork created with local artist Emma Lamport..
