Tredegar Library celebrated Blaenau Gwent’s launch of the Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge on Tuesday 18 May with celebrated author Rachel Trezise. Born in Cwmparc in the Rhondda valley, south Wales in 1978, Rachel studied Journalism and English at Glamorgan University and Geography and History at Limerick University, simultaneously writing her first novel. She graduated in 2000 and her semi-autobiographical novel In and Out of the Goldfish Bowl was published the same year.

Rachel’s writings include a selection of Literature: In And Out Of The Goldfish Bowl, Fresh Apples, Dial M For Merthyr and Sixteen Shades Of Crazy: Drama : I Sing Of A Maiden and Lemon Meringue Pie, as well as a Quick Reads title Loose Connections and contribution to six Anthologies.

The Six Book Challenge invites less confident readers to read six books such as the Quick Reads and record their reading in a diary. They are supported with incentives and rewarded with a certificate when they complete the Challenge.

This was the third year of the project in which two-thirds of library services across the UK are involved as well as colleges, adult education, family learning, children’s centres, prisons and workplaces..
