Arts Development aims to provide equal access for joining and attending arts opportunities, activities and community events. The Vale of Glamorgan Arts Development is is now working collaboratively with the Arts Services in Bridgend CBC, Merthyr Tydfil CBC and Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC as ArtsConnect.

 Current creative writing projects include:

Penarth Heights creative writing project  in which pupils in the Vale of Glamorgan enjoyed two days of workshops inspired by the demolition of the ‘Billy Banks’ and the development of the new Penarth Heights development. Pupils worked with Phil Carradice to compile a word bank of sights, sounds, smells and feelings inspired by the trip. These were then utilised to create a range of poems.

Pupils from Barry Boys school also enjoyed a four week project creating the Barry Boys Bonkers Comic Book in workshops with animators Turnip Starfish at Barry Library. The Turnip Starfish team create imaginative, original character led brands, for television, mobile phones and the Internet. They run a range of award winning workshops, from graffiti to animation, and have created a strong reputation in managing inclusive, vibrant and motivating environments for young people to create imaginative and innovative work.

The project is also developing links with Porthkerry Park, Cosmeston Medieval Village and Vale Education to create workshops and resources for schools involving creative writing.ArtsConnect
