Monmouth Walking Festival

Ric Hool
The first Monmouthshire Walking Festival took place from Friday 22nd to Sunday 31st October 2010 with a programme containing 32 walks. The walks extended from Chepstow and the Wye Valley, north through Monmouth, then west towards the Black Mountains and Abergavenny.

On Tuesday 26 October, Ric Hool joined the walk through Buckholt Wood in the stunning landscape that inspires his work. He read extracts at various points in the walk and gave insights of how writing can connect with a “spirit” or “sense” of place.

This 5.5 mile (8.75 km) walk took a group of thirteen people through farmland and tracks before climbing into Buckholt Wood. Leaving the wood they enjoyed views over the mountains of Abergavenny and the Black Mountains beyond. Continuing down through fields, everyone followed the River Monnow before returning to Monmouth town..
