Gwanwyn Festival Porthcawl 2011

Robert Minhinnick

On Friday 20 May 2011 Porthcawl Grand Pavilion held a Creative Gwanwyn market. This was part of the Gwanwyn Festival, which is a month-long national festival held across Wales in May each year celebrating creativity in older age.

Gwanwyn, which means ‘spring’ in Welsh, celebrates older age as a time of opportunity for renewal growth and creativity. The aim is to offer opportunities for greater participation by older people in the arts, whether visual arts, drama, storytelling, music, literature, photography, dance or film.

Gwanwyn festival is the perfect opportunity to take up a new creative activity or to go back and re-visit the creativity that used to be there in more youthful times.

People were invited to the Gwanwyn market where a number of creative, artistic and cultural activities were on offer. They enjoyed a variety of activities including: arts and crafts, musical performances, exhibitions, storytelling and much more.

Porthcawl based poet and writer Robert Minhinnick ran a creative writing workshop enjoyed by members of the Bridgend Writers Circle and local people..
