Art @ The Senedd

The unique partnership between Arts & Business Cymru and the National Assembly for Wales brings live performances to the public area of the Assembly building. Literature Wales were extremely pleased to be involved in showcasing their successful partnership with Arriva Trains Wales in the Senedd building on 8 February 2012.

The event was hosted by the Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler. Pupils from Maesteg Comprehensive and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd performed their own poetry created with professional poets Grahame Davies and Mike Church on a journey to Cardiff Bay.

Arriva Trains, Wales and Literature Wales are supporting the development of literature among young people across the country through a series of special train rides for young people’s writing squads. Their aim is to assist children who enjoy writing and who are beginning to write well. Members are nominated by their schools and selected to join the squad for the quality of their writing. The partnership was initially formed in 2006 to offer young people the unique experience of travelling through the Welsh countryside with a celebrated author, creating poetry in response to their journey. Poetry penned en-route has been published as posters which are displayed throughout the Arriva Trains network, providing inspiration and enjoyment for travelers.

This partnership harnesses the power of the arts to represent and explore Wales’ rural and townscapes in a safe and stimulating environment. Arriva Trains provide an inclusive and unusual platform in the community to share the talent of future writers of Wales at an early age.
