Vale Raps

RufusMufasa

From November 2015 to February 2016 young people accessing out of school provision provided by the Vale of Glamorgan Council enjoyed a series of rap and grime workshops with Rufus Mufasa. The workshops formed part of the Rhys Davies Education and Outreach programme which is delivered by Literature Wales.

Rufus encouraged participants to share their favoured forms of spoken word – heavily influenced by Grime and introduced them to hip hop beats to illustrate the connections between the genres. Workshops explored the themes of identity, local influences and content.

As part of the open and two-way learning encouraged in the workshops, Rufus was challenged to discover more about Grime and created her own response to the tracks she heard, challenging the content and machismo presented in the majority of grime tracks.
