RCT Literature Festival

The Young People’s Literature Festival held in Tonyrefail Leisure Centre on 28 March 2012 was the culmination event of two months of literature activities arranged as part of the Hands on RCT programme. It celebrated children’s literature – both for children and by children. The focus was on the enjoyment of creative writing and reading, with workshops and presentations, in both Welsh and English, by some of the best professional authors from Wales and beyond.

Two hundred and fifty young people from seven Primary Schools in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend attended the Festival, which featured celebrated authors Phil Carradice, Mike Jenkins, Francesca Kay, Michael Harvey and Mike Church. The day also included sports workshops delivered by Cardiff City FC Community Foundation.

The project was a partnership between Literature Wales; Tonyrefail, Gilfach Goch and Evanstown Communities First teams; Cardiff City FC Community Foundation; Arriva Trains Wales; Cardiff Library Service and Framwaith.

Venom Potato
“What you doin’?”
I like to eat my head
Because it’s made of potato.
My legs are camel legs,
I’ve got snakes
Coming out of my head.
I like to lick my tail
It smells like perfume.
I live in a cave
Which is dark as I wish.
I’ve got small dog arms,
My body’s shaped like a pig
And it’s the colour of ginger.
I eat chicken every night
As I say “FONOMANON.”

Tonyrefail with Mike Jenkins
Octachockta
My head’s tasteful chocolate,
I like to play on the beach,
I live by the sea in a mussel shell,
Put bolognese on my hair
It would make a lovely meal,
My body’s round like a pig,
My legs small like a dog’s,
I smell like a mix of chocolate and cherries
My tail’s curly like pasta.
“Today I’m seven,
But I want to be eleven.”

Carrot Head
Hello, my name’s Carrot Head,
My legs and feet are made
out of roller-coasters,
I’ve got a football body.
I live in Oakwood theme park,
My friends are big blob and baby blob,
I’ve got a really loud voice
And I say “I’m coming!!!”
I’ve got tasty chocolate arms,
Sometimes I feel like eating my arms.
I’ve got animal fur hair,
My legs and feet smell of Lynx;
I’ve got a carrot head
So that’s my name.

Savour me I’m cold ice cream
I live under the wanes in the caves
My cone stands firmly
My ears are delicioud flakes

A tear drips from my eye
I have a crispy golden cone as a body
I am the only one of my kind,
Upset and alone.
I have a chocolate flake
Stuck in my round nutty head

My sock has gone!

Screaming because he’s lost
Searching for a friend
Running to the moon
Hiding from his friend
Hurting because his friend is lost
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I can find another sock
If I search a lot.
Where’s my sock gone?
Walking up to the garden
Sleeping under the bed
Laughing at another sock
Talking to a friend

Crying for a familiar pair
Eating a star
Hiding in someone’s hair
Buying a new brother

Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I can’t find my other shoe
Oh! What am I going to do?

My sock has gone
Exploring space
Visiting Mars
Plotting to run away
Driving in a car

Moving from house to house
Sunbathing in Los Angeles
Missing it’s soul mate
Looking for it’s best friend!

Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Looking for it’s soul mate
He misses him quite a lot!

Where’s my sock gone?
Walking away behind the radiator
Looking for it’s friend everywhere
Waiting to be picked up at the swimming pool
Poking out of the ground for people to get me out
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I can’t wear my shoes
Without some socks!

Where’s my sock?
Flying through time
Shopping with a giraffe
Staying on holiday
Fighting in the alley
Plotting to rule the world
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Hiding under the chair
With a strange banana.

Where’s my Sock?
Hibernating with my squirrel in my garden
Living in my sofa with a packet of crisps
Shopping in Tesco for a little friend
Climbing out of the sofa looking for me!
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Come now little butty
I don’t want to hop.

My sock has gone!
Hibernating in the washing basket
Creeping in with the t-shirts
Finding it’s soul mate
Having a holiday behind the sofa for a week
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I can’t wear shoes
I will have to hop.

Where’s my sock?
Reading at the library
Swimming in a swamp
Eating an ice cream
Working at the comp
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
He ran away today
Oh, I’m in shock!

My sock has gone
Hibernating with the hamsters
Seeking for a soul mate
Sunbathing in San Diego
Spying in Space
Scurrying from Spain
Gossiping with Gary’s sock
Sobbing in the sofa
Whimpering in Wales
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I’ve lost my sock
but do not mock.

My sock has gone
Hibernating with a humming bird
Sneaking up the stairs
Crawling bhind my radiator
Or maybe behind my bed
Sobbing “I’ve lost my soul mate
Where has he gone?
I don’t know!”
So where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock
Now I can’t wear my shoes
I’m going to have to hop!

My sock has gone
Shopping for it’s soul mate
Exploring up the stairs
Hiding behind the refrigerator
That experience was great
Snoring on the sofa
From Dad’s smelly feet!
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Oh no, I can’t wear a pair of shoes
Oh, I don’t want to hop!

My sock has gone
Abandoned at the park by my friend
Hiding in the trees in the field
Hibernating with an animal
Running with my father and brother
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I am running in a shop
Looking for my sock!

Where’s my sock?
Hibernating in a shop
Talking with a friend
Looking at a tower
Searching for another sock
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
It’s hibernating
In a shop!

Where’s my sock gone?
Hiding up in Space
Escaping from the toilet
Moving into the toy box
In the PE bag looking for an identical sock
Crawling under the fire extinguisher
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?

My sock has gone
Hiding under the bed
Sneaked into my shoe
Lying in the sink
Lurking behind the TV
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Maybe behind the curtain
Or in the garden
I need you back!

My sock has gone
Exploring in the field
With mud and grass
Walking around the house
With a top
Swimming in the water alone
It wants it’s best friend
Running behind the sofa
Hiding from you
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I can’t find my sock
Wait until I find that sock!

My sock has gone
Shopping for a new friend
Sleeping to find his partner
Settling for a new mate
Running to KFC for a cop
My sock has gone
My sock has gone
Can anyone see my sock?

My sock has gone
Swimming in the pool
Hopping in the park
Talking in the house
Sleeping in the dark
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Walking in the park
I’ll have to stop.

My sock has gone
Hibernating with a hedgehog
Sizzling on a BBQ
Running away from smelly feet
Scurrying away from me
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I’m trying to find my little friend
I miss him quite a lot!

My sock has gone
Looking for it’s friend in the tumble
Running for it’s Mum in the park
Taking a walk in the shop
Crying for a new sock to come home
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I will have to
Cry for my sock.

My sock has gone
Hibernating with a hedgehog
Looking in the park for it’s friend
Eating in the cafe
Having a chocolate truffle
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I will have to
Explore for my sock

Where’s my sock gone
Snoring in the sun on the sun bed
Sleeping behind the radiator with the dreamy dust
Resting with the raving rabbit
Relaxing with the pillowcase with his friend

My sock has gone
Baking in the bakery
Playing in the park
Eating in the cafe
Having a chocolate tart
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I think it’s in the gym
And it’s lost the plot

Where’s my sock
Searching for it’s friend
Flying on it’s own
Swimming in the pool
Hiding in space
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Visiting the t-shirts
Or hiding in the drawer

My sock has gone
Jumping on the moon happily
Abandoned in a swimming pool lonely
Eating in KFC giggling
Crying in the shed for his soul mate
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
Is it hiding
Or is it in the clock tick tock?

My sock has gone
Hibernating with a hedgehog
Travelling to America
Hiding behind a locker in the changing rooms
Spying on me all the time
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
I’m searching for my sock
But I still can’t find my sock!
My sock has gone
Exploring the moon
Tucked under the chair
Sunbathing with Fred
And flying through the air
Where’s my sock?
Where’s my sock?
It’s out there somewhere
But I guess I’ll have
To wear another pair.

On my Bike
Along the slippery surface of the fire breathing dragon,
Through the ice cold waterfall along the dangerous cliff
Around the stars in space but watch-out for the aliens
Up the wall and down the door
On my bike, on my bike
I go riding where I like.

On my Bike
Down to the sea
Up the wall
Round the Milky Way
Up the chimney
Over big solid bricks
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Round the Mily Way
Down the chimney
Up in space light blue
Across the sea
Watch-out there’s monsters!
On my bike,
On my bike
I can go riding
Where I like
On my bike
Round the slippery pool
Through the hard wall
Under the small table
Over the sparkling rainbow
Up the steep stairs
Down the slippery wall
On my bike
On my bike
I can go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Through the dark and ugly dragon’s cave
Up into big dark space where the aliens live
Across the bright white Milky Way
Along the beautiful and colourful, shiny rainbow
Watch-out for the rainbow!
On my bike,
On my bike,
I can go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Around the twister like a flash
Over the moon in a dash
Up the steep and rocky volcano in Mexico
Across the planet of Mars
Watch-out – there’s that slimy alien

On my bike
Round and round the big world
Down the rainbow
Over the big clouds
Across the deep blue sea
Watch-out – there’s a jelly fish!

On my bike
Over the shiny white glowing moon
Around the dark rings of Saturn
Under the sparkly blue sea
Through the field of animals
Watch- out there’s a cow!

On my Bike
Over the red planet of Venus
Under the deep blue sea
Along the clouds
Across the bright rainbow
Watch-out there’s a leprechaun.

On my bike
Round the whirlpool
Over the rainbow
Under the earth
Up into space
Watch-out there’s an alien

On my bike
Over the sparkly rainbow
Down the splash of a waterfall
Along the invisible rope
Across the troll bridge
Watch-out there’s that ugly troll

On my bike
Down the dark and dirty chimney
Up the clean house wall
Across the colourful rainbow
Under the dark blue sea
Watch-out there’s a big black shark.

On my bike
Around the twister like a flash
Across the branches in the trees
Up the steep and rocky volcano which could erupt any minute
Across the planes of the savannah
Watch out there’s the hyenas
On my bike,
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Through a fire-y volcano
Under the house where people live
Round the rings of Mars
Across the powder blue sky
Watch-out there’s Dracula
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Around the moons of Mars
Through the white fluffy clouds
Down under ground in a deep, dark tunnel
Around to the edge of outer space
Watch-out there’s a one-eyed alien
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Down the massive volcano with orangey-red lava
Round the rings of Jupiter
Around the world in one whole day
Through the wall in one second
Watch-out there’s fire inside the wall
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Down the dark, damp chimney
Up into the big blue colourful sky peddling beside the birds
Over the big bright shining stars
Through the big blue glittering ocean peddling past the dolphins
Watch-out there’s a huge white shark coming
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my Bike
Through the crack of a waterfall
Up into space
Over a colourful rainbow
Round the wide world
Watch-out there’s a monster
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Through the moon where the hyenas live
Down the volcano where the tarantula lives
Under the mysterious world where the naughty troll lives
Across the Milky Way where the big flies live
Watch-out there’s a fly trap

On my bike
Around the slippery dangerous volcano with fire in it
Through the deep and steep dark and rough wall
Across the bright tall colourful rainbow
Round the brightly big planet of starry Jupiter
Watch-out there’s aliens
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Round a whizzing whirlpool
Through a dark darkness cloud
Around and around the circles of Jupiter
Across a gigantic ice block
Watch out there’s a tiny ice block!
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Around a giant monster
Down a sparkling waterfall
Over a beautiful rainbow
Through the ice cold ocean
But watch out a gobbling monster
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Round the magnificent stars in space
Across the salty blue sea
Along the mushy Milky Way
Up to the sky to race an aeroplane
Watch-out there’s another aeroplane coming our way!
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

On my bike
Up a wall I am so classy
Around , around a massive whirlpool
Through a dinosaur’s slimy slippery mouth
Under a dinosaur’s massive cave
Watch-out there’s that wicked witch

On my bike
Around the small stars
Through the bright orange rings of Jupiter
Across the sapphire sky
Under the blue ocean
Watch-out, there’s sharks
On my bike
Round and round a strong whirlpool
Over a colourful shiny rainbow
Along the powder blue sky
Around the rings of Jupiter
Watch-out there’s a slimey alien

On my bike
Round the moon faster and faster
Down the splashing waterfall
Along the invisible rope
Across the deep blue sea
Watch-out there’s a boat.

On my bike
Over the rainbow
Through the wall
Across the sea
Over the bridge where the troll lives
Watch-out there’s that ugly troll

On my bike
Through the castle where the dragon lays
Over the molten lava
Across the cave where the bats hide
Watch-out there’s a dragon throwing fire
On my bike
On my bike
I go riding
Where I like

It’s a creature we will remember
So wish upon it’s moon
The howling wolf is too fast for me
I hope I’ll see it soon

P Carradice

Abercerdin with Phil Carradice
Afraid
I am afraid of spiders
They really scare me
When I see one
I think it is coming to get me
I am afraid
of murderers
When I watch
the news
and they say
someone has been killed
I hide
Under my blanket
And whisper
“They can’t get me”
I am afraid
Of the dark
When it is dark
I feel like hiding
So I hide
Behind the door
But when
I turn on
The lights
I’m not afraid
Anymore

Afraid
I am afraid
Of snakes
The way
They slither
Up your body
And have teeth
The size
Of butcher’s
Knives
About to bite you
I am afraid
of my Mother
having an asthma attack
it gives me a shock
like waking up
after a nightmare
of bees
stinging me all over
I am afraid

My Fears
I am afraid
Of Mrs Fletcher
Shouting
Like a dog
Barking at me
It makes me feel
Like running
I am afraid
Of dying
Just lying
There it would
Be boring
It creeps me out
I am afraid
Of big dogs
Bigger than me
I feel like running
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of my Dad
When he’s chasing me
Like a lion
I am afraid
Of having an X-Ray
When I break
A bone
I am afraid
Of older rugby palyers
Charging at me
I am afraid
Of snakes
Crawling aroung
My knees
I am afraid
Of my Mum
She’s bad
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid of
Miss Fletcher
Shouting at me
Mr Mills
Telling my Father
I’m being grounded
I am afraid
of dying
in slow pain
sharks biting
bits off my body
I am afraid
Of demons, ghosts scaring
Me to death
Having my blood
Coming out
Faster
Than a racing car
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of snakes
Slippery
As soap
Their fangs
As long
As skateboards
I am afraid of spiders
As big
As a blue whale
As hairy
As a beard
I am afraid
Of getting lost
It’s like you
Have got
no family
Once I got lost
And I felt
So alone
I am afraid
Of being lost

My fears
I am afraid
Of deadly sharks
Opening their
Big wide jaws
I am afraid
Of killer
Whales
Pouncing up
From the deep
Black sea
I am afraid
Of spiders
Crawling into
My mouth
And their
Legs cutting
My gums
I am afraid
Of being alone
In my house
On my own
In the dark
I imagine
Snakes climbing
Up the wall

Afraid
I am afraid
Of creepy spiders
With their pointed legs
And fangs
Like butcher’s knives
I am afraid
Of stray dogs
Barking and howling
Like they are
Going to attack me
I am afraid
Of killer sharks
Their slimy bodies
And fearless hearts
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of strangers
They don’t know me
I am afraid
Of kidnappers
They can be
And always will be
Really mean
I am afraid
Of speaking in front
Of people
They might laugh
At me
And embarrass me
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of getting tortured
The pain
Like a shark
Eating me alive
I am afraid of power
Being in control
Of people
It might
Twist my mind
I am afraid
Of killers
The way they torture me
Would be likely
To drive me
To insanity
I am afraid
Of death worms
Eating me
When I’m dead
It would be
Humiliating
For my soulless body
I am afraid

I am afraid
I am afraid
Of sharks
Their big sharp
Huge teeth
It’s like they
Sharpen them
Every day
I am afraid
Of dying
I’ll be lonely
All by myself
Mud falling
On me
Spiders
Crawling
On my body
I am afraid
Of drowning
Sinking
In the water
Like
Something
Is pulling me
Taking
My
Breath
Away
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Od being alone
When I walk
Up the stairs
I think someone
Is with me
When I lie
in bed
I feel like
I am being watched
By staring eyes
I am afraid
Of being laughed at
All that merriment
It scares me
I am afraid
Of big dogs
I feel
Like they are just
Going to pounce on me
I feel
Like they are
Big wolves
Howling
Like the wind
I am afraid
Of my Mum smoking
When she puffs
Out the smoke
I think
She might die
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of nuts
I am allergic
I feel like
I can’t have
Much at all
I am afraid
Of embarrassment
Them ny tummy
Feels funny
I feel like
I’m going to be sick
If I do
I’ll be so embarrassed
And they’ll laugh
Even more
I am afraid
Of people
Whispering
I think they are
Talking about me
I think
They are
I am angry
I feel like
Someone’s
Burst my bubble
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of Mrs Fletcher
The way she yells
Like a dog
Howling
When it’s been run
Over
The way she rips
Pages out
Of books
Like an eagle
Rips his prey
Apart
I am afraid
Of crabs
Their claws
Munching
Away at the food
Like a shark
Eating
A human being
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of spiders
The way they crawl
Towards me
Like giant balls
Of dust
I am afraid
Of Mrs Gentle
The way she frowns
And never smiles
Like a witch
Mixing a potion
I am afraid
Of being alone
The way I feel
Like someone
Is watching me
Like a dragon’s eyes
I am afraid
Of losing
My Mum
Never seeing
Her again
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of Mrs Fletcher
She is loud
She makes my ears pop
Like a firework
I am afraid
of going to the comp
There are bigger people
Than me
I am afraid
I won’t grow
And stay as small
As an ant
I am afraid
Of needles
I have lots of them
They hurt
And make me feel
Like a pin cushion
I am afraid
Of spiders
I can see them
All the time
They are hairy
And walk
Like ants
Everywhere
I am afraid
To see my brother hurt
He fell
Through the roof
And his bone chipped
Like a tea cup

Fear
I am afraid
Of deep dark eyes
In the teacher’s
Class
I am afraid
Of Freddy Kruger
He haunts
My dreams
If I don’t
Wake up screaming
I won’t wake up
At all
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of sharks
Afraid they will
Eat me
I am afraid
Of spiders
Of their spiky teeth
I am afraid
Of murderers
Afraid
They will kill me
I am afraid
Of mere cats
I think they
Will attack me
Am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of getting lost
In the Millennium Stadium
When a kidnapper
Comes and gets me
I am afraid
Of deadly sharks
They come and
Leap out
Of the water
Like a frizzing bear
I am afraid
When my brother
Goes into hospital
With a
Brain tumour
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of sharks
As big as
Elephants
Moving
As quick
As a cheetah
I am afraid
Of Mum going
Into hospital
I will feel as
Lonely as an
Apple
Fallen from
It’s tree
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid of sharks
They swim
In the deep
Dark water
Camouflaged
Like lizards
I am afraid
Of the dark
I know
Someone
Is watching me
with binoculars
as green
as leaves
I am afraid
Of snakes
When I am
In bed
They slither
Up my
Legs
Tickling me
Like feathers
I am afraid

Hendreforgan with Phil Carradice
Afraid
I am afraid
Of the dark
Those glooming red eyes
I am afraid
Of drowning
In case
The hot water
Infects my lungs
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of mirrors
When I look at them
I think a different
Reflection will appear
I am afraid
Of going upstairs
When I reach the top
I think someone
Is waiting
To jump out at me
I am afraid
Of china dolls
They look like
They are watching you
Wherever you go
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of photo frames
With the eyes
That follow you
Wherever you go
I am afraid
Of drowning
In the sea
Where the big sharks
Might be
I am afraid
Of creeping sounds
When you are in the dark
I am afraid
Of guns
That shoot you
In the lungs
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of wasps
They look like
They will sting me
To death
I am afraid
Of dying
If I die
I would never
See my family
Again
I am afraid
Of lightning
It looks like
It’s going to kill me
I am afraid

Fears
I am afraid
Of cats
Because their fangs
Make you bleed
And die
In pain
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of my window
In the night
When it slams
In the darkness
I put my pillow
Over my head
I am afraid
Of my telly
When it turns
On and off
Every time
I hide
Under my
Bed
I am afraid
Of my phone
When it goes
All different colours
Then I run away
I am afraid

I am afraid
I am afraid
Of a ball
When it attackes me
It felt
As if the
Ball
Is hitting me
I am afraid
Of a flower
When it moves
I might get bitten if
A bee comes out
I feel terrified

Afraid
I am afraid
Of shadows
In my room
As they walk
On the walls
The darkness
In my house
Before I turn on
The lights
I am afraid
Of china dolls
In my room
Sitting on their chairs
Their eyes following me
Everywhere
I am afraid
Of the thought of drowning
The thought
Of not being able
To breathe
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of darkness
You hear something
Coming
But you can’t see it
It’s like it is
About to attack
I am afraid
Of heights
Looking down
To see how small
All the people are
It’S like you are
About to fall
To your death
I am afraid
Of snakes
They look at you
And start to copy
All your movements
Just like they are
About to strike
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of drowning
Everytime I go
Into the shower
I’m afraid
Of the hot water
Going through my body
And into my lungs
I am afraid
Of dying
Everytime I go to bed
I might not wake up
Just me and my bed
I am afraid
Of street lamps
When I’m on my scooter
I might fall face first to the ground
Skin peeling off
Like scabs
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of sharks
In the sea
Shooting at me
I am afraid
Of drowning
When I go
In the deep pool
I am afraid
Of hot water
Burning me
I am afraid
Of being buried alive
I would suffocate
And die
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of spiders
The way they loose
Their legs
And grow them
Back again
I am afraid
Of heights
The way you feel
Like you are going
To just go
Right over the edge
I am afraid
Of cats
The way their beady eyes
Stare at you
In the night
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of snakes
Their fangs
When they come
Out of their mouth
Like spits of venom
Coming at me
I am afraid
Of getting lost
When so many people
Are watching me
As if I was going to be pinched
I am afraid
Of sharks
If I am swimming in the sea
It’s like pulling
Your teeth out
I am afraid
Of walking up the stairs
It’s like someone
Is around the corner
Of the stairs
And going to pinch me

Afraid
I am afraid
Of spiders
crawling
across the floor
sneaking up on me
hanging from the door
their hair
as thick as logs
their eyes as red
as dragon fire
I sometimes feel
That a spider
Is crawling
On my head
I am afraid
Of drowning
In an empty pool
Struggling
To get to the top
The water very cool
The water is blue
Like the sky
I look around
And see a dead fly
I am afraid
Of the dark
Surrounding me
In the night
It really scares me
It gives me
such a fright
The dark is full of
Shadows
I can’t see
I don’t mind
Being afraid of the dark
That’s me

Williamstown with Phil Carradice
Afraid
I am afraid
Of the dark
There might be someone
Who is knocking
At the window
As loud as elephants
Stomping
I am afraid
Of heights
Just in case
Someone is going to
Push me off
The edge
I am afraid
Of spiders
Their hairy legs
When they are crawling
Up my arm
It feels all tingly
I am most scared
Of mirrors
Just if I look
Into a mirror
I might see a ghost
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of the dark
At night
I think that
Someone is coming
To grab me
I am afraid
Of spiders
I am scared
Of their hairy legs
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of the dark
I am scared
That someone is
Round the corner
Waiting to grab me
And my sister
I am afraid
Of sharks
Their teeth are as sharp
As pointed needles
And their fins
As big as
Pointy doors
I am afraid
Of dying
Being alone
In total silence
And my face pale
As paper
I am afraid
Of puffer fish
I am afraid

Afraid
I am afraid
Of sharks
Their sharp teeth
Are like daggers
Going to stab me
I am afraid
Of heights
Someone is going
To push me off the
London eye
It is as
Tall as
1000 ft
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of the dark
Lurking
Over my head
I think it might
Yank me in
Like a ghost
In a haunted house
I think a spider
Is crawling
Over my arm
Like a needle
Tickling my skin
I look over
A cliff
Afraid a man
Will push me
To my grave
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of the dark
I always think
There is a wolf
Crawling up towards me
As if it was
A baby
I am afraid
Of snakes
When they slither
It sounds
Like a ghost
I am afraid
Of my Mum
Or Dad
Going on holiday
It feels like
I am alone
I am afraid

Fear
I am afraid
Of clowns
My tummy turns
Like it’s done
A roly poly
I am afraid
Of going upstairs
On my own
I think somebody
Is there ready
To jump out on me
I am afraid
Of dying
Being like a skeleton
It frightens me
I am afraid
